hm.. you should read the comments on Douglas Fiore's profile.. turns out that several of us here are (at least temporary) Hoosiers. Very interesting...

As for hiking/glucose, well, it pretty much always drops when I hike, probably because I don't do it often enough. And while I was in HI, it was low all the time, so I couldn't say whether the altitude had anything to do with it. Wish I'd thought about it at the time, though.. :) I usually hike a few times a year, and only for a few miles (I'm afraid to over-commit!). I _always_ bring lots of "Becki-only" snacks, since I almost always need them.

Then again, my glucose always goes berserk (high) on airplanes...

Yup, Mt. Haleakala is in Hawaii. Actually, MidnightButterflyIris would know more about it, since she lives on Maui! Anyway, it's much closer to you than to me.. took us 15 hours to get there, but it's only 5 from LA or Vegas.

hey, i wouldn't necessarily call it funny. for me, it was more ironic. i am an avid junk food eater, and whenever i would binge on food i would always say, "watch, one of these days im going to get diabetes.'' eh...i guess i got what i asked for. since ur newly diagnosed, have u been managing your sugars? i just get discouraged, and ruin how hard i work at it. my a1c was 9 last time i checked. i dont know...:(
