I am still "thinking about" the whole pump thing.  I think the irritant of it is odd to me....I think of things like showering...sports...plus, I'm a bit of a "metro"...how easy is it to hide?

Pump Therapy is the way to go I think....I'm also very active in sports and stuff...usually...I won't wear my pump during that time...just keep an eye on blood sugars closely based on how I'm feeling...I have the Cozmo pump..it's waterproof...supposedly...I just detach it from my port, shower, and then click it back on....I rarely even think about my pump and others seeing it anymore...at first I did...basically...it looks like a cell phone..about the size anyway...and I just put it in my pocket..

I couldn't imagine life again without my pump. I find it so much easier to control my sugars and it's not a hassle at all. I hide it in my pocket and not many people notice it. I disconnect it for showering/swimming and never notice it when I sleep. I like how minimed pumps come in different colors and the skins are actually decent looking, although I haven't tried any yet. I'd recommend the pump.

I have never used a shower pack.  However, like everyone else here I detach for showering and swimming.  PC you should seriously consider the pump if you are active.  I have been training for triathlons (stress on training); 3 hr workouts.  The pump has given me such an advantage particularly in the short term.  I will take my pump off for the swim and run then do a 25-50% temp basal with an easy bike ride for example.  You can also temp basal on off days.  Lots of freedom!  Socially, I guess it's no different than if you take a shot in public.  Someone who has an aunt or an uncle with diabetes might tell you that you shouldn't eat something if they know what a pump is or if they ask you a personal question.  I take the freedom over what I would have to deal with anyway.  Good luck!

I have been on the pump for about 7 years and I think it's the greatest thing! Before I got on the pump, my A1C would average around 13 and now it runs between 7-8.  You've really got to weigh the benefits of the pump before you decide you don't want one because it might look funny.  It really does look just like a cell phone.  Many people have come up to me and said, "Wow! What a cool cell phone!"  If you don't want people to see it, you can put it in your jacket pocket or your back pocket.  If I'm going to a party or something where I want to wear a tight fitting dress, I'll just take it off for the evening and just give myself shots.  They also make holsters that you can wear under your arm under a suit coat or jacket.  As far as showering and sports, I just take it off until I am done.  I would recommend the shower pack for anyone who goes boating, because you never know when you might just fall in!  I know. :)

I have used the shower packs.  They do work for the most part.  It took a little getting used to.  I usually only use the shower pack when I have a bolus that will be delivered while I am in the shower.  I did wrap my pump in a shower pack when I went deep sea fishing, just in case I went in the water unexpected! =)  I love my pump!  Much better then giving myself 6-7 shots a day!

I take it off when I shower, but usually leave it on while swimming - just clip it to my bikini top or bottom.

The Minimed pumps WERE rated as waterproof when I started using it, but they changed that since they can't be sure you haven't cracked it (say, from over-tightening the battery door).  When it's new or if it's still in good shape, it should be fine.

I normally remove my pump when I am showering and/or swimming, as it's rare that I would be in the water for more than an hour. When I bathe, I leave it on and clip the pump to the shower curtain so that it doesn't get wet or fall in the water. I have the waterproof case but in eight years have never used it once.
