Tell us about your experience with/connection to Diabetes I was diagnosed in June of 1980 at the age of 16 months. I started giving myself shots when I was 7 and haven't let anyone else do it since then. But it seems that everytime you meet someone new they want to do it for you! I don't have any complications. No diabetic changes in my eyes, going to the eye dr. in June and hopefully I can still say the same thing. Have been in the hospital twice, once when I was diagnosed (16 months old) and once when I was really sick (16) and in turn it developed into DKA 'cause I couldn't eat or take my insulin.
Quick Bio I don't have any health insurance and haven't had any in 9 years. Can't find anyone who will cover me. Got turned down by BC/BS when they had their open enrollment because "of your Type 1 diabetes." Insurance companies don't want to insure those people who need it. So my parents pay for everything out of pocket for me.

Current Treatments I take 2-3 shots of Humalog and 1 shot Lantus insulin a day. Was on Humalin N (2 shots a day) for 9 years and when they stopped making that was changed to Humalin L, which ended up not working for me after awhile (the reason my last A1C was so high and hence the insulin switch) was then put on Levamir, which I found out I'm allergic to. Now have been on Lantus for about 6 months.
