Have you ever accidentally consumed a high number of carbs???

I have, it was my first time and I feel kind of silly!

I was at work, working the front desk and trying to get my annual report done and suddenly my mood changed. I felt pressure in my belly and felt "vibrations" going out from there. It was so odd, not like wanting to vomit, but defiantly sick to my stomach.

I quickly checked my bg... 12.5!

I went and washed my hands and tested again... 11.6.

Okay, take a shot. No worries, but what the H*ll? I hadn't eaten anything, was running perfect upon awakening and at my midmorning check. Suddenly I am high?!?! I was so confused. I just shrugged and went back to my report.

After a bit, I reached for the Diet Pepsi I had been sipping on. I glanced at it and noticed... it was NOT Diet Pepsi... it was regular Pepsi! ERRRRR.... *kicks self for being so careless*

Now, I am curious have you ever done something similar to this or am I the only silly one here?

I guess I automatically can taste the difference between diet and regular (since i've been drinking diet for the past 18 years). I've had experiences where i've guessed the wrong amount of carbs and given an incorrect bolus, or bolused and should have used an extended bolus instead of regular one. I've also had times where i've grazed and snacked for hours at a time (knowing i shouldn't, but did anyway) and then had to give a correction bolus to correct for a high blood glucose.

We learn from our experiences, and these things just make us more aware of what we are doing/eating/choosing, etc. Next time you'll be more likely to check the label before you drink it (and probably remember how crappy that high made you feel).

I consume a high number of carbs all the time when I dont know what I am eating or how to count the carbs for them. I end up just taking extra insulin 2 hours later and than knowing for next time as to how much to take.

Yes Brittany, I do that too sometimes... it's just impossible to know all of the time. This time was different for me because I didn't know I was having too many carbs (or any at all for that matter).  I try not to do it, I'm afraid I might be damaging my eyes or something.

I wonder how safe it is to do that a lot. I mean once in a while doesn't mess with the a1c's much, but when you do it "all of the time" what are your a1c's like? I'm really curious, if you don't mind sharing!
