My high blood sugar saved my life, for once!!!

Usually hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) is more dangerous to your health than it is helpful, but for once in my life it was more helpful than it was hurtful! I had went to the emergency room after three days of nausea and vomiting and not being able to control my blood sugar, even though I was taking my usual insulin and not being able to eat.  For some reason the doctor decided to do a CT scan of my abdomen and discovered my appendix was swollen to twice its normal size.  It was then decided that I would be admitted overnight to get my blood sugar down and if my appendix was still swollen it would have to come out. The next morning with my blood sugar back down to normal and my appendix still swollen I was taken to surgery to have it removed. It was later discovered that without the appendicitis my blood sugar would not have gone up and without the hyperglycemia they would not have been able to catch the appendicitis until it was too late and had ruptured, causing even more problems and infection, for anybody really but for a diabetic especially!
