Tell us about your experience with/connection to Diabetes

I'm a type 1 Diabetic and have been for 27 years. Diabetes is my nemesis, my constant companion and my monkey-on-my-back! It's always there, I can't get rid of it and I can't forget about it. I learned a long time ago to get used to it....

Hi Dee, Yes I have been diagnosed with gastroperesis and basically what happens is that because everything is moving so slow that, I just started backing up. Food would sit in my stomach for days and because it wasn't going anywhere, I would end up throwing it up. Sounds gross, but I would see food that I had eaten days ago. I lived with nausea for years and just didn't know what to do anymore! My doc finally prescribed Reglan for me. It's supposed to keep things moving more regularly. I couldn't believe how much better I felt right away! The only problem I had with the medication was after taking it for about a year, it caused depression. I went on depression medication, which caused nausea and for 2 more years, I dealt with nausea again. Finally, the doc took me off everything and I haven't had digestion or depression problems since. After I was so miserable for so long with the gastroperesis, and knowing what I know now, I would still take the reglan. In fact, if I feel like I might start "backing up" again I will take Reglan for a few days. So, you might want to ask your doc about it. Good luck to ya!
